While over 80% of people in the US get bullied, William Douglas had an experience that made him never want to swim ever again. In Deep Water, William went to learn to swim, but that was a big mistake, because what he got a life changing day. Even though all he wanted to do is swim, William landed in a life or death situation.
Although that happened to William, he’s not alone, because most of the United States of America has experienced something like this. But this wasn’t the same. He actually wanted to swim. But when he tried, it didn’t turn out well. Afterward he felt frightened, the only one who doesn’t know how to swim, and different.
William was different, seeing that he saw yellow water, getting darker the farther down he goes and some force was pulling him down. It turned out a bully pushed him and since he didn’t know how to swim, that’s why he had all those “feelings” of him being alone.
It’s very sad that so much people get bullied, but we have to deal with it, because nothing is going to change. Nobody knows why kids are so mean, but that’s just a question that not really anyone can answer besides the person who actually bullies someone else. William learned how to swim eventually but he will never forget this horrifying event.

Essay response to The Pearl
Dear Mr. Steinbeck,
Your book The Pearl was great. There were some parts that weren’t so great. Reading this book was enjoyable most of the time. On the other hand, it was a little confusing. Although the book was confusing at some points, there were more parts of the book that were understandable.
Some confusing parts in The Pearl are when Kino killed one man, in the dark, and when the baby started to heal, after they found the pearl. I don’t know what was with it that confused me, but I just didn’t understand it. I also realized it was hard to follow, but it was a good story.
The Pearl was great because it shows what something as small as a single pearl can do to you. For example, Kino killed four men, and beat his wife Juana. If you looked at him and compared him from the beginning to end, there is a huge difference. In the beginning, Kino would never do anything to hurt his family, but he ended up hurting his family, and more. After all the drama happens, Kino’s son got shot in the head, and that was for the best, because it taught Kino a lesson.
Although Cayotito died, Kino has learned a lesson. He should never let money, or anything over-power him because it will end up not too pretty. All in all the book was awesome and I hope to read more books by you sometime sometime when I get older because I guess I will understand it more.

Final Reflection on the Pearl
The end of "The Pearl" was not that shocking. Since Kino was in love with the pearl, and that meant putting his family in danger, which leads to what happened in the end. Overall the book was interesting, it had it's up's and down's, but it was a pretty good book. Not the best, I've read better, and worse.

The Pearl chapter 2 and 3
I think that when Kino found the pearl in
Chapter two was intense, and didn’t know what was
Going to happen next, but then I read chapter 3 and that
Was even more intense, because when they went to the doctor.
I don’t really like the book, I mean it could be better, and it
Could be worse. But I guess its just fine but I don’t know.

the Pearl
When Kino beat up his wife, I was shocked. I would have never thought that
The Kino in the beginning of the book would ever do such a thing.
Also when he killed that man, if you just look at what the pearl did to him,
It turned him into a monster.

Reflection on the Pearl
The Pearl is interesting at some parts, but then really boring at other parts. Also, its really hard to follow at most times, there are just a lot of different emotions going on in that book. Its not a book that I would read, personally, because it' just not my type of book.
