Response to Mary Poppins
How would you react if you saw a man laughing hysterically and floating on a chair? In Mary Poppins, by P.L Travers there are a lot of mysterious things going on, especially how a man is laughing while floating! Also when a girl comes flying through the sky just holding an umbrella. The lady in the sky is Mary Poppins, and she comes to be the new nanny for the rich family. She comes because she is the nanny, and to teach the misbehaved children to act polite.
The plotline for Mary Poppins is Romance. It’s not romantic, but it follows the plotline. First, the family’s nanny quit because the children were so naughty, and then it ended with life symbolism, which in this case was thinking about the children and whole family in a positive way which is making the father happy.
Even though the plotline fits in with the story, the characteristics fit better. The characteristics are pretty much a fantasy vision. Also, the main character (Mary) can do no wrong, and is in control. Mary Poppins the movie is highly unrealistic with good as powerful, and bad is weak and laughable.
The symbols of romance are very different from the plotline and the characteristics, as in they also go great with the story, but in a different way. The symbols in romance that match up with the movie are: morning, birds chirping, lots of sun, exotic, colors, and much more. These symbols are so important to the romance mode.
All in all, the movie was romance and it was a great film! It was so funny and the songs were great in the musical. P.L Travers should be very proud of himself for making this up!

Thanksgiving Break
This Thanksgiving break was fun! I have a very big family, and we have so many family traditions. Every year for Thanksgiving, my entire family goes to my great grandma's house. But over break, something changed. My brothers that live in Indiana came up to Wisconsin to visit and their names are Cody and Shawn. They walked into my house at 3:30 am, and I didn't know they were coming. I was still awake, and I screamed when they walked in, because I thought it was a robber! We had a ton of fun with them and Thanksgiving came around. My dad never likes being the first ones to a party, I don't get why, and that's why I was surprised because we were the first ones there. When the rest of my family arrived, everyone was so excited because my brothers were in town. Some traditions are going for a walk before dinner, and going around the table saying what we are grateful for. Also, another is having an adult and kid drawing. The drawing is for Christmas. We have such a big family that we need to have our own exchange program. The person picks a name, and whoever they pull out of the bag, that's who you buy your presents for. There are so many more family traditions that cannot be explained.

The man who looked like my father.
It was a windy day when the man crossed the road and went into the bus station. It was a cold September afternoon with the wind blowing in my hair on a bike ride. When I saw the man who went into the bus station, I thought he looked very familiar, so I followed him into the station. He was wearing an expensive suit, holding a briefcase, with a top hat, and black shoes. He dressed very similar to someone I miss dearly. My father.
The man dressed like him, has the same hair, the same look. My dad died this summer in a car accident. But this man who went into the bus station looks exactly like my dad. Exactly. I followed him for a couple hours, just because there could still be fate. He took a bus to Midwest airlines, then got on flight 14. I had to think fast so I bought a ticket. The plane went to Florida, but after the flight, he got on a boat at a docking station. The other people one the boat seemed to be his friends. They greeted him by saying “hey Al!” Al was my dad’s name. This is really creepy.
All of the friends said “haven’t seen u since the accident! Where is your family?!” Then Al replied “They don’t know I lived, I don’t want to come in and have them think I’m a ghost or anything.” I couldn’t believe what I just heard. It was him! At this point, I’ve never been happier. After their little conversation, the boys went into the boat room, and then the boat started drifting away. I didn’t want to loose my dad again, so I started screaming for him to come back. Nobody heard me, so I hopped into the lake and swam for the boat. Luckily I could get up onto it, but all my dad’s friends are in the room.
One of his friends came out to check on the captain. Right when George saw me, he screamed and thought I was a stranger. Then all of his friends came out. The second my dad laid eyes on me, he ran towards me and gave me a big hug! We had to do a lot of explaining to George since it was his boat. I can’t wait to get home with my dad and tell my family!

I almost got kidnapped at a carnival! [:
Last year, I went to the local Pewaukee carnival our town has
every year. There was an old man who worked there, and he was really
scary and almost kidnapped me! I rode the zipper and my friends phone
flew out of the cart, so when we were done, we went to go look for it. We
split up and then this old man who worked there came up to me and said,
"Stay here, I got something to show you." After that, I ran away by my friend, because earlier he came up to me and said "come back after dark and I will show you my house."

Cheerleading
In cheer leading, I am a flier. That is where some people go up in the air and do stunts. I really like flying! Its just so much fun getting launched up into the air, and feeling the fall breeze on my face. You need to have a lot of muscle and pay a lot of close attention. Some other important roles in stunting are bases, and backs. the back stays in back of you and holds on to your stomach, then when you get launched the switch to your ankles. Also there are two bases and they just hold you up! I love cheer leading!

Horses
Horses!
I used to have a black and white horse named Oreo. Oreo was kept at my dad’s friend Mark’s farm. I used to get riding lessons every day by the instructor named Dori. Dori is a professional horse rider and she was an amazing coach. One day, we had to get rid of Oreo. My dad never told me why. I hope he is free somewhere roaming in the hills. I miss him a lot, because the last time I was riding him was when I was probably seven or eight years old. I will always love horses, but I will never look at a black and white little horse the same way ever again. Also my dad had a pony when he was younger. Riding horses is my passion.

Patriotism
Patriotism
By Rhiannon Wasley
Can you believe some people don’t think patriotism is important? I can’t believe it at all. Veterans show their love and compassion for their country by fighting in battles across the world, like the World Wars 1, and 2. My great grandfather fought in World War 2, and died. He and many other people die serving their countries, but they die with pride. Although many people think patriotism doesn’t matter anymore, I and several other Americans know it is important for our country.
Patriotism is important to America, because without it, we would not have as much land as we have now! Back in old times, America was just a little piece of land that the Christopher Columbus discovered. But when he found it, he saw that Native Americans were living on. They thought that it was a small piece of land, but realized it was huge! We are so lucky America has won several fights, battles, and wars. It’s all thanks to the caring veterans who serve their countries everywhere in the world.
While we are lucky to have so much land, have you realized how much trouble the veterans go through for America,
and the people here? They go to a place, fight, some get
Savvier injuries, and possibly lose their lives. Think about the people who were going to become veterans pretty soon, and then get hurt and don’t make it through the end. Think about their families, and friends. Think about how nice they are going off to somewhere on earth fighting
For something they believe in. Veterans are amazing people to look up
to. If you’re not going to go into the army, navy, marines, or anything else that would make you serve your country, you should still look up to the adults who do go into the army, and all the other places. Patriotism is
very important no matter what anyone else ever says.
